Compilations,
reviews, and agreed-upon procedures.
- A review consists of comparing financial information from one year to another by using ratio analysis and inquiry of management to determine the integrity of the financial data. Financial statements and footnotes are prepared and attached with a review report stating the financial integrity of the documents.
- A compilation consists of preparing or compiling financial information into financial statements. No footnotes are prepared as part of this process. Also, the integrity of the documents is not examined.
- An agreed-upon procedure engagement can involve many different things. Usually this type of engagement is performed to verify a certain set of rules, laws or contractual obligations that are being followed by an organization. This is more an examination of accounting procedures than the financial data itself. It can involve state rules or laws, federal rules and laws, or just internal controls set orth by management or a lending institution, for example.
